Examples of properties we own

Østergade 26, Copenhagen

One of KIRKBI’s five central Copenhagen properties, this 1901 building is situated on Strøget, near Kongens Nytorv and Magasin. The classical design, featuring domes and spires, emerged from drawings by Erik Schiødte and Christian Arntzen.

Once home to Breining’s perfume shop, the building underwent redevelopment in 1971-72 under the direction of Ole Hagens Tegnestue. Today, the property houses premium retail spaces at street level, with offices on the upper floors, centred around the glass-covered “Bernikow Gården” courtyard with its array of small shops.

Østergade 26 received a silver DGNB certification in 2021 and achieved Denmark’s first platinum certification in 2024.

This milestone involved social sustainability projects, a biodiversity plan, and digital energy monitoring that cut heating use by 25% in 2023. KIRKBI is also pursuing Net Zero by 2032 through a 10-year maintenance plan.
