In KIRKBI Climate, we play an active role in addressing global climate change by investing in and building high-impact businesses focused on energy transition and circular plastics

How we invest

Driving impact on global climate issues call for substantial investment, risk-willingness, and dedicated teams of specialists. Our approach is twofold: we build businesses with proven and mature technologies while also exploring and investing in emerging and promising solutions and technologies that require risk-taking and long-term capital to reach scale.

A broad portfolio

Our portfolio includes ownership of and investment in a wide range of activities, from start-ups to well-established businesses that all play their part in addressing global climate change and reducing plastic pollution. With a current climate investment portfolio of around DKK 8 billion, KIRKBI Climate aims to deploy up to an additional DKK 10 billion in climate solutions by 2030.

To maximise impact while ensuring long-term return on investment, we operate with a twofold approach:

Mature technologies

Companies with more mature technologies, where exercise of active ownership can strengthen performance and support the companies in reaching their potential. An example is KIRKBI Climate’s ownership of Adapture Renewables Inc., a U.S.-based developer of solar facilities and energy storage.

New technologies

Explore new technologies that have moved beyond the prototype phase and require risk-willing and long-term capital to reach scale. An example where KIRKBI Climate is a minority investor is Tidal Vision, a U.S.-based company that focuses on replacing harsh chemicals with chitosan-based solutions in water treatment, agriculture, and biomaterials such as plastic.
